BIBLIOTHEEK YPENBURG CULTUUR ANKER

BuiltInteriorPublic

After the success of the Nieuw Waldeck Library in The Hague, it was time for Ypenburg Library to adapt to the changing for the demand for having more space for cultural activities and group activities. Today’s libraries have changed from book and reading activities to a brighter use.
Besides that there was a desire to ensure flexible use of library space within the existing layout.
The relatively small renovation had a big impact:
In a short time we created more space for the cultural activities of the “cultural anchor” program and the many school class visits, where groups of 80 to 100 visitors of all ages had to be accommodated. This was possible by adding new flexible furniture elements that are multifunctional and movable. For example a compact movable podium can either be used as a stage for presentations and performances as to be used as a sofa to serve as an extension during performances to have more seats.

In addition, the opportunity arose during the adjustment to alternate the existing high cupboards with half-height cupboards so that much more light and, in particular, a better view, a completely different experience and overview was given to the library.
Unnecessary furniture has also been mofied and partly been replaced by new multifunctional and movable furniture. Putting it on wheels was often “the” solution.
Due to good preparation and the help of the library own staff, the library was closed to its public for only 3 days. In addition to lean out books, the library can now offer even more options in the same space to its many visitors.
